July 4th 2010

HAPPY 4th everyone!!!!

I hope everyone is celebrating and having a great 4th with family and friends! I wanted to share some quick 4th of July facts with everyone...

Fact 1: The Declaration of Independence was not actually signed on the 4th of July. It was adopted/approved on the 4th of July and was later signed on August 2, 1776.

Fact 2: Quote from John Adams to his wife Abigail, "The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more." (He was correct about all but one thing...the date...we celebrate on the 4th which is the date on The Declaration.)

Fact 3: In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence to later serve as President of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. (this fact gave me goosebumps!!)

So while celebrating with family and friends please remember July 4th, 1776 and this day going forward...remind yourselves and everyone around you that we are the lucky ones and we together MUST keep it that way. Again the time is now to keep this the Land of the free and fair play!

Talk to you soon!
